Uniforms in Catholic schools are as traditional as beginning the day with prayer. When students wear uniforms, the hassle over what to wear, and who has the “coolest clothes” is eliminated. But on a deeper level, putting on a uniform announces that it is time to get serious about school; it supports a serious work ethic and encourages a focus on the subject matter.

Corporations from American Airlines to McDonald’s require employees to wear a uniform for much the same reason we do; a uniform identifies the wearer as an integral part of the organization, or in our case, the school. We hope that the uniform engenders pride in the students, and that all who see it are impressed by the courtesy and kindness of the student who wears it. The St. Joseph uniform should be a visible mark of the virtues that set our students apart.
